New Hair / Officewear

So, shaved my head earlier this week. Just got tired of my hair. It also kept breaking, so even though it was growing, it kept staying at a bob length. I kind of want a fresh start with healthy hair.

The only downside to shaving your head is making small talk about it at the office. "Did you do it for summer?" No... "Do you like it?" Yes, that's why I did it. "You have a nice skull" I suppose I do. "I wish I could shave my head" So do it... "You look like Sinead O'Connor" Yes, I suppose so. Eh, I don't care...nothing too interesting happens at the office. When someone gets a haircut, it's literally the most exciting thing that's happened in months.

Unfortunately, I kind of have to "retire" a few wardrobe items for a while. For a shaved head, I think more structured/fitted garments look better. A shaved head looks perfect all the time, so it seems more balanced to have the rest of your outfit look polished as well. I also like having no hair because it shows off my earrings and other piercings.

Here are two looks I wore to the office this week:

t-shirt: forever 21; pleated skirt: american apparel; necklace from this post

I love this pleated skirt. It's thick and has a good weight to it. Also high-waisted and the deepest black. I like to wear this with a crop top shirt or a t-shirt--don't want to be TOO corporate and stuffy now. It reminds me of my art-book publishing days.

dark red buttoned cotton shirt: ben sherman; silk skirt: brooks brothers
So much for not looking too stuffy! I actually like this look because it's so stuffy. I actually button it all the way to the top for an even more affected look. Hard to see in the shitty lighting of my apartment, but the blouse is actually a deep dark red.

wore these earrings
These have been my "signature look" earrings for the past 10 years. They are awesome.

Ever shaved your head? What kinds of outfits look best with a shaved head?

  1. Oh, I love this! It suits you so much, you look really nice! And I also think that your outfits would not look so good with hair. I always wanted to try something like this but I am too scared and I also hate the shape of my skull.

  2. Cutting your hair can be such a relief, I know I felt relieved when I got rid of my long hair and got a bob instead. I like the shaved look and funky earrings with the more stern looking outfit! It's a great look! I love contrasts!

  3. It requires talent to look not like a sick person/ butch lesbian (when you´re not lesbian) or a crust punk girl with a shaved head. i just love how you pull it off!!! Structured outfits really do compliment this, because it´s easy to fall into the hippie category when wearing more "i don´t have power to dress myself up" kind of outfits. it looks even more awesome with the earrings!
Never going to shave my head though ;) the shape of my face will look even more atrocious, i need hair to balance my horribly narrow forehead with my dominant cheek bones. plus I am growing it out at the moment :3

    1. thanks for the compliment! When I was younger, I had random dudes asking all the time if I was a lesbian when I shaved my head...this hasn't happened yet, surprisingly

  4. Nice shave! Shaving my head seems unlikely; I have some odd birthmarks that I prefer hidden, plus I can't see it going down too well at the medical school. I'd be more inclined to get an undercut anyway, but I like this on you. Next trend?

  5. Well, I suppose it's still not all that common for women to shave their heads altough some people can pull it off nicely. But I know what you mean, a new haircut is always an event...:P
    Anyway, it suits you! ^^

  6. I've shaved my head a few times over the years and I have to admit I've never thought about what I wore at the time. People always thought I was a skinhead or I was crazy.

You look great! I've been toying with the idea of going back to a pixie cut, I think it's cathartic to cut ones hair :)
