Pantone Spring 2015

It's that time of year again, when I spend way too much time going through mainstream fashion's "it" colors. Here's Spring 2015 (If you want to see my post on last year's spring 2014 colors, click here)... for those of you in the Southern hemisphere, you can see the newly announced fall 2015 colors here at the Pantone website.

The color gods and the fashion gods continue to shove the 70s down our throats with spring 2015 colors. There are a number of parallelisms between now and then. The whole 60s space race/future home/Jetsons fell way to nature hippy dippy/bohemian whatever. And now that we've got smartphones and the Internet and are basically living in the cyberpunk dystopia dream of the 90s, we're all about the barnwood and organic/raw food and fabric and handmade everything.

I don't know about the colors...I think they're too 70s, but I welcome the return to handmade. I think our cyberpunk dystopia and our homemade worlds can coexist in today's world--social media and etsy prove this. So my set's going to focus on handmade touches like crochet, macrame, paint and raw materials like leather, jute, and rough stones.

Aquamarine: This is my favorite color for spring/summer denim (after gray). Wide-legged pants or cut-off shorts.

Scuba Blue: Great for leather goods like ankleboots, shoes, belts. Also the color of the turquoise stone

Lucite Green: Let's sit back and LOL at this color name. Lucite is a trademark for a particular kind of acrylic resin. You can't get further away from hippy dippy nature stuff than that. As for the color itself, it's basically jade. Jade jewelry...especially raw jade like above...will look great for spring 2015.

Classic Blue: A very safe color that can be used for everything. Use an alternative for black.

Toasted Almond: In addition to a classic everyday neutral, I think this color can be interpreted as rose gold. Looks great with the pantone color of the year, marsala. It can easily integrated into nu-goth styles for a spring look.

Strawberry Ice: I don't think I have a lot of girly-girls in my readership who would love this color. But this is a nice summery shade for makeup/nails. Can liven up the grays or beiges.

Tangerine: Look who's back. The 2012 color of the year. For your fun summer days. In the spirit of handmade, don't get this in jersey, get it in some textured fabric.

Custard: Like tangerine, tone this down with handmade touches like crochet/fringes/whatever. Also a nice hair accessory piece and accent color. Scarves, hats, etc.

Marsala: I did a whole post on 2015's color of the year

Glacier Gray: Or for those of you who speak the Queen's English, "grey." This is hipster barnwood gray. A nice color for casual shoes and jeans. Also a very popular haircolor right now for people who wear dark fashion. Especially great for people who can't get a true white color (almost everyone)

  1. Not a big fan of most of the colours, partly because I can't pull off any of them. I do love what you did with them in those final two collages, those are some great looks.

    1. Yeah some of these are hard to pull off for anyone, like tangerine. I can't believe that was color of the year a few years back

  2. I'm not so fond of these colors, but the combination of toasted almond and marsala supplemented with some black is, indeed, promising. I wear lots of grey these days too, moreover, I'm thinking about getting some grey streaks in my hair...:)

  3. I laughed so hard at the Lucite Green comment! Seeing as I work in the repro-retro fashion world, I found this name color to be particularly hilarious ;)

  9. The ones I like are marsala, classic blue, strawberry ice and toasted almond. I actually don't like pastels too much, I usually prefer deep, dark, jewel colours.

  10. Those goth collages of yours are so stylish and pretty! And I laughed aloud for the point about Lucite Green, did not know that before. :D

  11. Love the marsala and rose gold collage!! On their own, neither marsala nor rose gold excites me, but for some reason they look awesome together!
