Trend Predictions: 2016

Last year I thought 2015 would be a toned-down year, and it was. More of the same old-school, witchy, modern-goth look. Am I the only one getting tired of this? I made the below polyvore set 3 years ago and it still looks relevant today.

Modern Witch

Just kidding. It's still awesome. I'm kind of hoping that it'll be a little more extreme...not like the overdone cybergoth look of the late 90s/00s (which I also loved). I'd like it to still be chic and wearable, just more witchy, more spooky, more out there. lol i didn't join the scene to be subtle. And let's face it: modern goth is pretty subtle. (except for those loud occult prints, of course)

I predict that others will feel the same way. I'm hoping for some changes to the silhouette. Bell sleeves, mostly. I love the harness stuff that's been around forever. I hope there's going to bigger, badder ones.

some photos of stuff I hope will continue:

For work, I'm liking tribal styles that aren't "tribal" if that makes any sense.
(her hairrrrrr)

makeup trend: white eyeliner. My god how awesome is this white eyeliner.

So yeah, 2016: more of the same as the last three years, with bigger bolder elements.

What are your trend predictions for 2016?

  1. I definitely like seeing this on others, even if it isn't quite my style! Have you seen the new Tim Walker pictures?

  2. I'm not into bell sleeves for myself, I like seeing them on other people but it drives me batty to wear them. I don't know why, it's just like I can feel it hanging there and I think it's the looseness that bugs me lol. As for trends, I haven't really seen anything new emerge in the recent year. Killstar appears to regurgitating the same designs over and over again, only the materials look to be even cheaper than before (and lordy, did you see their version of the coffin backpack?? It's a hot mess). House of Widow's new arrivals look mostly 70's inspired and oversized. I've seen a lot of oversized clothing, also a re-emergence of classics like buckles, exposed zippers, fishnet and pvc. Also that whole threadbare thing seems to be dominating the scene everywhere I look lately.

For next year, I think we'll see much of the same. I had hoped to see more metallics and I didn't. I did see a bit of white in a few collections but I don't think it really caught on. There was a lot of black and white again in 2015 and I don't see that ending anytime soon. I'd love to see a revival of period inspired stuff, only with a more serious, less costumey approach, but I doubt it will happen.

That being said, it'll be a good year for me to sew lol, I won't have to rush out and buy anything.

    1. yeah totally about that threadbare thing...i'm not really a fan of it. and that fabric and oversized clothing is extremely easy and cheap to produce and sell. and, random, but i absolutely hate coffin bags.

  3. I love the witchy style and would love to push my own limits. I'm pretty toned down (aka lazy).

That white eyeliner though! I need to try it for one of my 100 Days of Makeup looks. :)

  4. I am kind of happy that the toned down modern goth look stayed (embarrassingly caught on pretty late myself) but I do miss more edgier stuff. I recently cut my hair in layers in order to tease it again and I am thinking of getting more punk inspired in my outfits. So far mainstream fashion helped me tone down my everyday looks and I actually like it, you think less but there´s still black involved..

    1. Yeah, it's nice how effortless it's been dressing in dark fashions... It's pretty much mainstream so you can shop anywhere, the styles are wearable so you can wear them all the time... I know for me personally, dressing goth at the office has never been easier.
