So it's no surprise that "Medieval goth" when I was younger was similar to the first search result you get when you type that in Google image search:
still awesome by the way |
Historical anachronisms ahoy. But you know the look: big sleeves, corset, long dress. Damsel in the castle. The aristocratic goth look is very very dead. The big sleeves and dresses are coming back, but more in a witchy way.
I see medieval coming back more in a warrior way, inspired by LARPers (live action roleplaying) and cosplayers and the geeky renaissance we are currently in.

Obviously the above are for LARPs and not for everyday wear. But it can translate well to everyday, combining elements of tribal and nugoth...
Mai Magi does this look well:

To have a more fantasy-inspired goth look, I suggest adding the following to your already-existing dark fashion wardrobe/look:
- Having more armor-influenced accessories/clothing like chain mail, scale mail, tooled leather
- sword, dragon, axes, and other geekery accesories
- tribal-inspired makeup
- braids or dreads
I don't think this is currently a trend, just more a thing I'm in to nowadays. I've been reading nonstop sword and sorcery these days! Do you dress historical/inspired by fiction? Let me know in the comments!
Ha! The second and third photo are from the store Dracolite (also the links gave it away)They are based here in Montreal. Really great store. The owners are awesome. I got my wedding dress and so did most of my bridesmaids from there! The store has some really neat window displays too!
ReplyDeleteI wish I'd went! Is this sort of look big in Quebec? I was trying to recall an awesome shop I'd went to in Quebec City, but could not recall the name (at the time they didn't have a website either... Really). After much pointless googling, was led to the Montreal store. It's definitely on my visit list next time I go!
DeleteOh no, the picture doesn't show :(
ReplyDeleteBut I totally love the fierce warrior-goth look, and I'm all for that warpaint! Might be because of the books I read (loads and loads of fantasy, but also post-apocalypse, and I think the look combines the two very well.)
Ugh stupid Blogger and its old tech. Thanks for letting me know!
DeleteOh, I wish it was a trend...^^
ReplyDeleteMaybe! I've been wondering what's going to replace nugoth... My fingers are crossed
DeleteI've been seeing this endlessly on Instagram, exactly by the bloggers you've mentioned. By god, if I see someone doing horizontal lines on their nose I'm going to rip their nostrils out! I have to be honest - it's a cool look, but I can't stand the whole "survivor chick" thing anymore. It looks like these bloggers are copying each other and I find it ironic to dress like this when you live in a city lol. I dunno, not my thing XD
ReplyDeleteLol I love the horizontal nose lines! That's totally going to be my next makeup look. And I'm absolutely in love with those bloggers. Must be 4 years of big hats, round sunglasses, and leggings
DeleteI do love medieval inspired style! Ties in with my faerie inspo from Ren Faires...
ReplyDeleteFor sure. You're the far, I'll be the warrior, and there's a million witches out there... We've got ourselves an adventure party.
