Pantone Color of the Year 2017

New year, new you, new color of the year from the color oracles at Pantone. Last year, they went with two colors: Rose Quartz and Serenity. I don't know why they went with two, but rose quartz was everywhere...even the freakin iPhone was that color. This year, Pantone returned to one color of the year(ery): Greenery! Pantone says:
Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront - it is an omnipresent hue around the world.
If you're cybergoth (or an ex-cybergoth like me), you've got a warm place in your robot heart for toxic-waste-slime greenish yellow. LOL, PANTONE, so much for natural escapism! You think the first leaves of spring, I think the ruins of civilization.

Pantone 2017

Baggy pants and platforms, that's how you did it in the early 2000s. Never thought it would come back. But I don't think this color is limited to just cyber styles. I've seen it in nu-goth in the form of green mirrorshades, which seems to be replacing the big round glasses. I know I should be asking why mirrorshades are returning, but honestly, they're so awesome I'm not sure why they left. (post on those next week!)

Perky/cartoon goths (see below) already have this color in many designs, and it's an obvious color in medieval/fantasy looks (see below). Honestly the only ones late to the Greenery game are the nu-goths. I've also included a corp look below

greenery

It's a great shade for eyeshadow, and looks great with black. I don't know why green and black go so well together. For some goth styles, you really need another color for contrast. Green was my go-to in my cyber days--thought it was more cyber than black! Neon yellow was also another great one. Red's too goth, pink's too girly, blue isn't contrasty enough, silver is too contrasty.

What do you think of Greenery? Would you wear this color? How?

  1. Yay for black-green combo! I love it, but this particular shade is a bit too toned down for me. If I were to wear it, then only in tiniest details. Give me toxic green!

  2. Oh well, im not really fan of green color and if - than emerald green.
Only way I could wear this shade is to combine it with something natural, you know, elfish wibes, aesthetically it's somehow dead for me, but I had always wakness for it and maybe I can revive it. But I really like the most your perky - cartoon goth suggestion, why not? I always liked theese weird iron fist prints, but I felt like its not for me.

    1. yeah that's a look I like more on other people too. I feel like I'm either too old or not fun enough to wear their designs

  3. Haha yess, I knew you would cybergoth-it! I do think this is a great combo for different styles. Maybe because of the hippie goth style the color looks very baroque-ish. I don't think I will include it in any way but I sure like seeing it around me ^^

  4. Aw, it touches my little heart. In high school a late friend wore mainly black and lime green. She had a little black and green corset purse she carried around with her. It was awesome. I have this color in my eyeshadow bin, I think I'll have to use it again.

  5. Totally agree with you, a very cyber goth color! :) I am (and was as a teenager) more drawn to darker greens but I think that color would be great in makeup and in small accessories, as a contrast to black. ^_^ I've been blond almost always, so I guess that is the reason why I wouldn't have light or bright shades in my wardrobe.

    1. yeah definitely a contrast color. I think darker greens are more flattering to most people, but pantone went a little crazy this year after playing it safe the last few

  6. I used to have eyeshadow in that shade! I think my current one by Medusa's makeup is close. I really like the long green dress, it would suit my Faery style!

  8. As usual, I love the outfits you have made. I wouldn't mind cracking out some green eyeshadow this spring! I have been eyeballing a pair of blue mirrorshade aviator sunglasses.....maybe I'll get green ones instead!

    1. blue ones are pretty popular as well, so get the ones you like! if i can get my hands on prescription mirrorshades, I'd get the classic cyberpunk black

  9. Meh...we need lime green and neon...! ;) I don't actually wear bright colors, this shade of green is too cartooney for me.
