Happy New Year!

As per tradition, on the first day of the new year I do a one-card reading for the year ahead. Last year was the Page of Wands, and I'd say 2017 was a crafty year--I took a jewelry-making class, a lace-making class, and finally did some chainmail after wanting to learn how to do that forever. Also finally built a computer.

This year I took a card from my newest deck, the Aquarian Tarot deck. It's a minimalist warm-colored deck that's the 70s take on art nouveau. I think it's a good deck when you want a simple meaning--personally I don't like decks that go overboard with the symbolism. Here is the hermit, all alone, hiding from us in his robes. He's walking away from us, retreating to some dark place with the lantern.

I know I've retreated lately...holing up to play the Witcher series, lol. (I'm about to start Witcher 3--just finished 2, which was AMAZING). I've got a million other games to play--after 10+ years on a Mac, I have some catching up to do.

The other thing is I notice people dropping off the face of the earth. Life, political differences, people moving to other social media, it seems every space I'm in gets quieter and quieter.

Are you withdrawing from the world this year?

  1. For me, every year brings the possibility of withdrawal... But I think my worst hermitage years are behind me now - I've stopped sharing my art years ago, now I show it at least to some good friends of mine. It's good, I think, that I've at least started drawing once again. And even if I don't show it to the world, I'm fine with it and at peace with myself.
I don't really believe in tarot, but I've decided to draw one card online out of curiousity, since a certain site allowed me to draw a specific one from whole deck... I got Queen of Pentacles, and I'm freaking out, because feminity and warm home? I'm SO not ready for this.

    1. I've loved your art on Instagram! I don't believe in divination either, but it's a fun exercise. I've always read the Queen of Pentacles as an organized benefactor (nurturing, in a physical capacity)... So maybe someone will be your benefactor??

  2. I know nothing about tarot, but what a heart-warming card that is.

Personally, I'm planning to temporarily cut my internet connection, the modern term of isolation.
Since I can drop by any day at school, for obvious reasons, like paying the rent via internet etc.
But I do wish people would blog more. I mean, the ones who I happen to follow.

I wish you happy hermiting anyway!

  3. Yeah, I wish blogs would stop disappearing! I am too old to convert to Instagram or whatever the kids are using today!!

    1. also all that stuff takes too much time. I'd rather write an article than spend an hour getting ready for a snapshot.
