2015 Pantone Color of the Year

The color gods at Pantone have declared their 2015 color of the year. BEHOLD the glory of pantone number 18-1438: Marsala. (Red-brown.)

Pastel goths were lucky last year with Radiant Orchid (link will take you to my post on it). This year, Mori girls rejoice for your time has come. From the press release:

Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.

I'm a fan of this for makeup and home furnishings. It's an awesome lipstick color too. Since it's so earthy, the color of iron-rich soil and clay, I think it looks great with ceramics. Looks great with fancy jacquards and shiny leathers. It's also a little '70s.

When I saw this color, I immediately thought mori girl. Flowers, earth, copper, vintage. '70s.

BTW, I love my polyvore sets for this color.

How to incorporate this color into a dark fashion wardrobe in a non-mori way? Gradients are a good way to incorporate any color. It's a great everyday alternative to bloodred eyeshadow and lips. Henna tattoos, which was a goth thing in my younger days and I hope comes back, is another way. It's a nice hair color for romantic goths/medieval goths. Grunge styles work great with it, as it matches denim nicely. Nu-goth accent pieces like sunglasses and meant-to-be-seen lingerie are also a good way to add this color to your wardrobe. Check out my polyvore set below.

Thoughts on this color? Do you own anything in this? How would you wear it/decorate with it?

    1. I'd like to get a lip color in this myself. Also, your style was kind of and influence on these sets... Not sure how obvious it is, but I'm glad you like it!

    1. You win some years, you lose some years. If you put this next to some of the spring colors, it looks crazy 70s. Better than the tangerine from a few years back!
