new logo

Got a new logo for the blog. The original one that's been up since the beginning (2010) was something that I hand-drew and took a photo of and photoshopped it to look pixelated. Yes, this is what my real-life handwriting looks like:

So, thing is, I really don't like the blog name anymore, but I'm not going to change the name. Too much of a hassle. The name kinda sucks and you can't tell what my blog's about. What is it about, though? I've decided to go with "A Dark-Fashion Blog"--hyphen because this blog is about dark fashion, not a fashion blog that's dark.

Funny how a logo redesign makes you think about your blog's identity. I originally made the below logo. I originally wanted to make it like bad NYC bathroom vandalism, and decided, hey, I'll make this blog a dark-fashion, NYC-centric blog. But, then, eh, I'm not really into that scene here and shouldn't pass myself off as an authority in that area. I'm not. I like what I like and I blog about that.

The new logo was inspired by retro book covers and VHS video stills. That's the lock to my door, and that's a picture of my hand. I think it sums up my style perfectly: dark but not in a traditionally spooooky "goth" way, grungy, very NYC. The font I used for "a dark-fashion" blog is a throwback to my cybergoth/industrial days, whose influences show up occasionally.

The typography is bad, and the photo is also pretty bad quality: this is to let you know that you shouldn't expect photo-studio quality photos and perfect writing. (I do this in my spare time.) But hopefully you guys think i've got cool content.

Maybe this is a good time to ask for feedback. Is there something you'd like for me to blog about? Posts you enjoy reading? Posts you don't?

  1. Nice! I love the new header and I think it suits your blogging aesthetic. I love your commentary on street fashion and trends, I think it's really thought out and inspiring. Of course I love outfit post, but I also love to see you at art shows/around town, etc.I have to live vicariously through you as I barely can make it to the city, even though I live in NY state. Ha!

  2. I think this is a good time to say, I love your blog! You have such an eye for "goth" trends (bad title, but I hope you get what I mean), and are always posting interesting inspirational bits and pieces that no one else ever talks about - nail stamps for instance!.

  4. I love the new header! the picture looks awesome despite the quality. don´t let that bother you, I don´t think that fancy photos are what your blog is about, and I love it and browse it often times! I love your series posts like the pantene color, new year trends, also your visits at different exhibitions. I love your outfit pics nevertheless, they are always special and never something i had already seen on other blogs, so keep it up!

    2. oh also I am always curious of this "so NYC" stuff you always mention. care to do a fashion post to show us what people in NYC typically wear? that would be very interesting, and makes me wonder about Berlin in that sense as well.

    3. I've been wanting to do an NYC fashion post since forever. Berliners seem like really sharp dressers... At least whatever WWD posts from Berlin

  5. Dude, I *loooooove* the new header! It's so you! Creative, cool, eclectic, epic and super stylish; it's perfect! (p.s. the typography & photo quality are just fine! :) I'm a big fan of most of your posts (esp. the ones about your hair and nail art) and like Meagan said, I vicariously live thru you also which is why I like the around town posts too! I do have one suggestion, I was hoping maybe you can do a post on Health Goth some time. I have no idea what it is or what it's about but have been hearing tons bout it and would love to hear what you think! :)

    1. I most definitely have a post on health goth in the works... Sportswear is a huge thing right now in the fashion world and there are plenty of looks that are dark... Track suit days are long gone. I've also really gotten into yoga the past few months, and want to do some yoga wear posts

  6. I love the vampyric nails! I like the blog name, sounds quirky and unique and a bit like a girl gang or a kid's show about furry monsters!
