Hair Trend: Buns

Everyone's looking forward to fall. Maybe some of us are tired of the heat, tired of bugs, tired of the sun, tired of trying to do the braid styles that were popular this summer. You literally don't have the energy to pull the rest of your hair through the elastic to finish the ponytail. Maybe that's just me.
And the runways, and on tumblr, and outside. It's the style that isn't a style, but suddenly it's cool. Maybe because it's been overlooked.

septum, messy braid, ombre, bun....how on-trend, ay?

a bun AND a braid! and unusual accessories. unusual hair accessories...where was this picture 2 years ago.

It's also unisex. From all the backlash about the "man bun," wearing this style is almost a form of gender activism, breaking down gender norms, showing that a "women's" hairstyle is just a hairstyle. Why have gender breakdowns for a body part (hair) that we all have?

Any of you going to sport the bun? Oh, wait, are you already wearing one? ;)

  2. I love the buns and am so glad people have realized they are not merely "women's" style. I would like to wear them myself more but unfortunately my hair is so thin it is actually quite a tedious job to make it look good. >_> Should read hair blogs to get tips on this problem but I've been too lazy. :P

    1. They've got those donut pillow things. Probably a YouTube video on this. Personally I just don't brush my hair and that's enough poof

    2. Yeah, I have small/normal sized doughnut pillows but my hair is so fair (read thin) it just doesn't seem to cover the whole bun. :P

  3. I'm all for thean bun if he has long hair, the tiny onion buns hipsters seem to be sporting though? Eeek. I wish I could get my thin hair to make a decent bun, I have to back comb the shit out of it just to cover a normal sized bun ring insert!

  4. Either you have enough hair to do the bun perfectly, or your hair is so light that the bun stays up. I´ve never managed both, how girls do these buns is a mystery to me, mine always falls down because my hair is so thick,
Loving the whole gender activism with the man bun, but I just hate how it looks in general. Also, all of the bun wearing men have beards these days, so it kind of still looks manly to me. No feminine boys with long hair to marvel at V_V

    1. I've got super thick hair too. Even though it looks like I've got long hair dye to the size of my bun, it's barely at my collarbone. I think that's probably it... Relatively short hair. Or an undercut

  5. Oh man, I love those rings in the braid; I'll need to try and find them. I have a bit of difficulty with my shorter hair now (pics to come), but I love a good bun.

  6. I'm wearing a bun now indeed! It's most comfortable hairstyle. I rarely wear it for ,,fancy look" though. That's because I think my small bun from thin straight hair looks quite poor. I see a lot of man buns lately and think it's nice. I really love long hair on men and I think they can rock ,,girly" hairstyles too, right?

    1. I think so. I personally love guys with long hair, and a ponytail gets too boring

  7. A bun is my not-going-anywhere/gym/lab hairstyle, I am quite self-conscious about wearing my hair up around people. But the key to an everything-proof bun with long and heavy hair is a black plush scrunchie, I can't do regular hair ties.

  9. AW YEAH, I am so on trend. I wear my hair in a bun to work all the time. After I shower, I wet-style it into a bun about 80% of the time as my hair takes like an hour to dry. A big thanks to the person who decided that hair apathy = style!
