Dark Holiday Party Basics: Sequins

The holidays are here. Maybe you might choose to ignore the celebrations, but there may be a number of them, ending with the New Year. What to wear if you want to be festive?

Along with metallics and velvets, sequins always start popping up everywhere around this time of the year. Of the three, sequins scream that you are there to party.  I always think your outfit should match your surroundings, so sequins are an obvious choice since holiday decorations are always sparkly--whether the baubles or the twinkling lights.

If you don't have the confidence to pull off some of the louder colors/patterns/styles like the one below, try matte sequins or black, like the one above. I like the girl below's hair color and she's got a gold pentagram necklace too...super fancy! The shoulder pads are also cool.

The below look I should bookmark as a good example of a dark fashion working with a brunette. Notice that she'd be typical nu-goth, but with the sequined jacket, she looks like confetti or twinkling lights and therefore super festive.

What's your go-to outfit for holiday parties?

  1. I love sequins and sparkle, especially in its darker form. Also, velvet. You can't go wrong with a bit of velvet, can you? And when in doubt (or in a rush), I go with an LBD + lots and lots of jewellery.

  4. If I am lucky I will not have to go to any holiday parties this year. However, if there are no good events for New Year's I may end up hosting a whole whack of people at my house.....send help. If I have to go to any parties that are *shudder* work-related then I have to behave myself in the clothing department.....I find a black cocktail dress with some loud and sparkly jewellery usually does the trick.

  5. Whenever I party - be it Batcave, or a small party at home - I usually wear as little clothes as possible to not overheat while dancing. It's usually very random stuff put together, not fashionable lol, but if I were to find a sequined playsuit or leotard, that would be my outfit for everything. I adore sequins.
