Vintage Nails

So, there was a time I was really into gyaru nails and decided to put a bunch of ornaments on my nails. Gyarus typically get acrylics, but I don't really like the feel of artificial nails. I went to the beads section of NYC (yes there's an entire street in NYC that just sells beads) and bought a bunch of flowers and little cameos. I wanted to do a Victorian kind of theme.

I did a google books search for public domain works and found this ad in a 1950s magazine:

I didn't realize people were gluing stuff onto their nails for so long.

More vintage inspired nails:

  1. I have always liked the idea of gyaru nails, but the execution and aesthetic have always left me high and dry - especially with the longer, pointy nails.

I commend those who are able to do it and enjoy it - it's a pretty cool idea. :)

  2. I used a plastic rose in my mani for this challenge as well. I think I am officially hooked on them- so pretty and easy to apply!

  3. Oooh very showy! Great research too :)

  4. That looks so fab! I really love the little portrait :)

  5. Pretty nail craft!!! Lovin' the history! :)

    Nice job.

  6. I love what you did with the ornaments! It looks so cool!

  7. I personally do not like gyaru nails, but i admit your nails look great. The pale blue is wonderful and i really like the cameo.

  8. Holy wow these are incredible! I'm still coming to terms with the amazing fact that there is an entire street in NYC dedicated to beads! Awesome ;) Love the little magazine article too, how interesting!

  9. omg this is great, I don't know which one I love more!

  10. Hey, new follower here :)
How cool that ''fingernail ornaments'' go that far back!
