Pantone Colors Spring 2016

It's that time of year again, when I spend way too much time going through mainstream fashion's "it" colors. Here's Spring 2016 (If you want to see my post on last year's spring 2015 colors, click here)... for those of you in the Southern hemisphere, you can see the newly announced fall 2015 colors here at the Pantone website.

Red and Gold weeks

The past two weeks have been strange at work since my group was folded into a larger group. I'm in a new bigger department...my job's still the same but the work that my lean team of 3 is now being done by like 15 people. The levels of bureaucracy are amazing. I inherited an assistant and I now attend meetings with the other managers, so I'm suddenly very visible. To introduce myself to the group, I've been wearing a flashy combination of red and gold (lol and participating in the meetings). It's easy to disappear in a corporate setting. For better or for worse, I've chosen not to.

For one thing, I now wear my septum, which I've never worn to the office. The hoop earrings are ridiculously flashy and cheap looking, but I like em.

2015 Pantone Color of the Year

The color gods at Pantone have declared their 2015 color of the year. BEHOLD the glory of pantone number 18-1438: Marsala. (Red-brown.)

Pastel goths were lucky last year with Radiant Orchid (link will take you to my post on it). This year, Mori girls rejoice for your time has come. From the press release:

Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.

Pantone Fall 2014 Colors

It's that time of year again, when I spend way too much time going through mainstream fashion's "it" colors. Here's fall 2014 (If you want to see my post on last year's fall 2013 colors, click here)... for those of you in the Southern hemisphere, you can see the newly announced spring 2015 colors here at the Pantone website.

When I first saw these, I thought Pantone was fucking with us by re-releasing spring colors, but I'm a fan after I made a few polyvore sets.

Gothing Up the Pantone Spring 2014 Colors

Happy Spring, everyone in the northern hemisphere! It's that time of year. Pantone color time. My personal seasonal challenge: gothing up the season's Pantone colors. I'm not sure why I do this. (Those of you in the southern hemisphere, you can see fall's colors here)

What's Pantone? Well, it's basically the, um... only color company? Everything that uses colors uses Pantone colors. You need something printed at a commercial printer? they're going to ask you for a Pantone color number. Ordering fabric from a textile manufacturer... going to need a pantone color for that too. I don't understand how they make their money.

Spring/summer colors are always a challenge for those of us with darker wardrobes. The above colors are especially a challenge. When I did this for fall 2013 there were actually a few colors I loved: the deep violet-purple Beaujolais, which looks awesome as lipstick; the washed-out, grungy deep lichen green. I thought I was going to hate these spring colors, but I actually like them. This is a great time for rockabilly looks, vintage/antique looks, steampunk, pastel goth, and postapocalyptic fashion.

Well, the color gods have chosen their almighty color for 2014, and it is Radiant Orchid. Pastel goths rejoice, for your time has come. From the press release:

“An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

Pantone Fall 2013 Colors

So, NYFW's covering spring looks...but summer hasn't even ended yet! For those of you in the southern hemisphere, you might want to look at Pantone's newly announced spring colors. (sorry: colours)

But I want to talk about fall. Here are the Pantone colors for fall 2013, and there'll be some looks after the jump.

Red and Black Week: Red, Black, White

So, today's post is Red, Black, and White. Now, I'm not sure how to say this, but for some reason I could NOT think of a decent way to combine these three colors in a way that looks good on me. I don't know if it's my attitude or body type or what...but this color combination just looks wrong on me. But I'm a team player, so here are two looks of mine, red black and white:

gah photoshop of horrors... sorry guys. forgive me.
