It's that time of year again, when I spend way too much time going through mainstream fashion's "it" colors. Here's Fall 2016 (If you want to see my post on last year's fall 2015 colors, click here.)
The desire for tranquility, strength, and optimism have inspired a Fall 2016 color palette that is led by the Blue family. Along with anchoring earth tones, exuberant pops of vibrant colors also appear throughout the collections. Transcending gender, these unexpectedly vivacious colors in our Fall 2016 palette act as playful but structured departures from your more typical fall shades. Blue skies represent constancy as they are always above us. Grays give a feeling of stability, Red tones invite confidence and warmth, while the hot Pinkish Purples and Spicy Mustard Yellows suggest a touch of the exotic.
They aren't wrong...the colors are vivacious and playful, but the gray is the no-fun one who reminds the teacher to assign homework. Most people grew up with dolls; Pantone employees only got to play with color swatches.
And where the hell are Serenity and Rose Quartz? I thought they were the colors of the year? We got two colors and they didn't want to use even one on the fall set?
But I do like these colors, and I've already been seeing them everywhere. No joke, they are the nicest fall colors we've had. They go so well together and are very wearable. Usually I rely heavily on accessories for the dumb colors, but I didn't have to use any for this set. Just drool over the colors on this set:
Pantone fall 2016 featuring laced up boots
Sharkskin: It's also the hair color of the year! Unless you're dying your hair, this color just screams corporate to me.
Airy Blue: so THIS is the color I had problems with when styling the above. It just screams summer denim for me. I'd use this for accessories or have it be an accent on a piece of clothing in another color. Like embroidery!
Riverside: There's ALWAYS a mandatory denim color.
Lush Meadow: For all those fall/winter lush meadows. This is one of my favorite colors, and looks best in textured fabrics like suede, leather, velvet, lace, chiffon.
Spicy Mustard: A fall must-have, the color of changing leaves. I thought of you, Roses and Vellum, when I picked out the fae-looking dress above. Haha though I know you're entering spring now. In the stores, Spicy Mustard is the #1 fall color I'm seeing.
For dark fashion, I think this color can be interpreted as gold, as in the below set. Now, I know for many many years, gold was so out of style in the dark fashion world. I too hated it. And now, I love it. Recently I switched to silver again, and I found myself missing my gold jewelry. (especially my coil necklace, which of course I used in the set below, which is basically my look these days)
Pantone fall 2016 (dark fashion) featuring ... my personal style for this year
Aurora Red:: lol so this deep red is my favorite lip color, as you know. It looks fantastic with gold. All the romantic goths also used to dye their hair this deep red too. Are you surprised I'd pick these two colors for the dark fashion set? Honestly, these were my colors of the year. (last link I swear). Red+gold is also beautiful for the holidays and next to the changing leaves.
Potter's Clay: Depending on which swatch you look at, this is either a brownish red or a reddish brown. (This is why you can't just give the Pantone # to your manufacturer, you have to mail a sample, as I learned the hard way at work, lol). Boots/leather pants for your fairy/medieval looks.
Bodacious: So I'm going to say that you can literally pick any color out of this palette and have a fantastic lip color. I've also seeing this color used a lot for those satin bomber jackets that are literally everywhere.
Warm Taupe: Fall/winter always has a lot of shiny shit, and metallics/sequins/etc make this otherwise boring color exciting, but not so exciting that you'll stand out like a drag queen. If you want to wear metallics and sequins to the office, this is your color. See above skirt, which i wish I owned.
Like I said, I love these colors. I don't always do. And thanks to all of you who look forward to these posts! I do enjoy making them.
Which is your favorite color in the fall set? How do you like to wear it?
