I'm liking the more colorful velvet fabrics more. Like many dark fashion people, I own black velvet things, but you kind of lose the texture of the fabric with black. I'm liking colored velvets these days (lol even though I just got a black velvet dress)

Red is one of my favorite colors for velvet, especially a deep bloodred. though I've seen it in a lot of "soft grunge" (though i don't think i've used this term since 2013 lol)

But I feel red velvet is best reserved for fancy vampiric looks:
velvet featuring platform shoes
Though black velvet creates the illusion of wearing the blackest black:

What's your favorite way to wear velvet? All-black? Color?

I like velvet in rich colours. Purple, blue, crimson. I can't get it to photograph well but it's still lovely. There's maybe less than three months in Australia when I can wear velvet and not boil though!
ReplyDeleteYeah for real I don't know how to photograph it either. You either can't tell or it looks weird. Lol on the plus side, you've got the summer ahead of you!
DeleteI love velvet in black and in purple. I have black velvet dr martens, and they are so pretty and very very soft!
ReplyDeleteI'd bet! I'd be afraid to wear them in the rain
DeleteLol, this type of velvet looks so tacky, but I can't help but love it. Just yesterday I've tried bell-bottoms made of shiny shiny black velvet on and holy damn, I couldn't tell whether I look more tumblr or like 9-years-old me, but it was awesome. Well apart from the fact I wore everything in navy blue colour when I was 9 years old.
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of black velvet bellbottoms that still fit as well! I used to live in them
DeleteOh, cheap velvet is love especially in red, purple or dark green. But I also wanted to mention that the reason why I love black velvet is because it's as black as it gets...:)
ReplyDeleteThat it does!
DeleteI tend to wear vintage velvet as I like the feel and look much better. BUT! I have a soft place in my heart for cheap velvet babydoll dresses as that was the uniform in the 90s, I have some crushed velvet leggings that I love and am still kicking myself that I didn't get the burgundy pair. Burgundy velvet=love!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've come across any vintage (like real vintage) velvet. I've heard others say it the quality is so much better.
DeleteIt's definitely the weather appropriate fabric and that's why we almost never see it beyond fall/winter. I love velvet and want to add more of it to my collection. It's not a cheap fabric to acquire by any means. I was fortunate enough to snag a deep sea green stretch velvet at a store closing sale. I wish it had been on for cheaper I would've bought hoards of it!!
ReplyDeleteSounds beautiful! I'm sure you'll make something awesome with it
DeleteOh, how much I love velvet! Especially in red. I see it's very popular now which makes me happy. For me it just looks magical.
ReplyDeleteHaha it's my favorite too (as if you guys can't tell lol)
DeleteI'm absolutely in love with velvet. I hadn't worn it in ages, because I thought it made me look fat, but I tried on a few velvet items recently and saw the light :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, green velvet looks stunning.
It does!
DeleteLove your last 2 pics! I love black velvet, I have a huge black velvet cardigan that I wear in winter all the time, it's great for layering with warmer things underneath. I wand a velvet skirt lately, a maxi one. My main problem with velvet clothes from retail stores is that the velvet is almost always the wrong direction - when you brush it with your hands it scratches the skin, whereas it's supposed to be sewn on the other way around. I've been discouraged to buy cheap velvet things because of that. Need to check out second hand stores again.
ReplyDeleteYeah I've noticed some velvet stuff is uncomfortable and always wondered why!
DeleteI just bought a velvet pencil skirt so that I, too, can be in style (lol). I just about went for a black one but changed my mind at the last minute and got a burgundy skirt instead....I agree, the texture gets lost in the black velvet a little bit.
ReplyDeleteYeah the next velvet thing I get will be colored
