If you were like WTF j-rock/punk? in my opening paragraph, I present to you the safety pin dress. This is incredibly not cool. The mass-produced faux-punk style was dumb 15 years ago. If you like safety pins, why not just DIY it? The slash top is at least in style. I wonder why you can't diy this. Next we have two print shirts that aren't fair for me to review because I don't understand and won't wear print shirts. Fake band shirts are probably the final boss of all dumb print designs, though.
I know some Gen-Xer designs the clothing here (and it's not just because of the safety pins) but because of the lazy, aimless fuck the USA "generic rebel" shirt. There are many reasons to hate the USA but Micky Mouse ain't it. Remember when the economy was good and the biggest problem was too much consumerism? LOL. With the threat of nuclear war looming, who thought an A-Bomb shirt was a good idea?? This would look great styled with a MAGA hat and an assault rifle. Kind of weird that the model looks like the girl on the love t-shirt. The evil spirits shirt looks cool...but that better be lettered by Christophe Szpajdel otherwise that's totally knocking off his lettering. Also fake band t-shirt.
Omg I'm crying...whyyyy is there a fake Crow shirt? Why does it say "the horror"? How much could it be to get the licence to use the actual image? the bad kerning h otli t-shirt says to call "1800 disturbia"--I really, really don't get why anyone would get a no-name-brand logo t-shirt. Next up we have the homonym shirt for those of you who like random fonts and homonyms. I've got nothing to say against the denim backpack. I like its many pockets
Never kneel...it's bad for your knees. So I actually really like the Bovver boots. Like really really like these. A minimalist goth boot that will go with everything. I just wish they weren't pleather. I could smell the chemicals and sweaty feet from here. I got nothing against the distressed denim shorts. They've got a modern fit and the distressed part always makes me think of summer break. I can't read the writing on the bib overall thing, but it makes me think of LARPing as a goth Pinnochio or something.
The thorn necklace is actually pretty cool...and it's made from sterling silver. There's the Bovver boots again, which look super awesome paired with fencenet tights. So this brand goes overkill with the screenprinting, but in the jacket I would say it's somewhat necessary because otherwise it looks a little boring and unflattering. It's got a random j-rock chain--I really hope that doesn't come back, but I think it will. Barbed wire, spiderwebs, something else I can't tell what it is. I really wish I hadn't complained how boring nu-goth was getting. The mom jeans with random shit on it actually looks cool, if you can pull that off. I could see this on a gutter punk or someone who is a badass.
The barbed-wire tracksuit is kind of a fun health-goth jacket that I would wear to the gym if I didn't already own something similar. The Burn Bomber is also a cool casual jacket (tentatively--I can't tell what's on the other sleeve). Honestly though, bombers are kind of last year's trend. If I were a designer I would have paired some goth embroidery (like folksy skeletons) on a black bomber--pretty much the goth version of the folk embroidery trend that always, always included bombers. (btw I wrote that trend piece exactly a year ago, so the bombers are last year). Next up we've got two barbed wire dresses. I'm curious if younger people still think it's cool--when I was a teen I thought barbed wire everything was the coolest stuff ever. The placement of the wire on the right looks better to me since belts are in style, but there's another reason too. Random story, but I have a sweatshirt that has not just barbed wire across the chest like the dress on the left, but it's in a tribal style. I got it in the late 90s. Every single time I wear it outside, someone wants to kick my ass. I'm just buying groceries or walking to the corner store, and for sure someone's going to start a random argument with me. I know it's not a cool sweatshirt. But something about the barbed wire/tribal print really makes people want to go full cannibal on me. Because of that anecdote, the dress on the left makes me terrified for my safety, but I could see why it would check many boxes for people: velvet, cold shoulder, "skater dress"
What are your thoughts on the newest offerings? Haha am I not giving them a fair shake? I might be too old for this brand lol. I'd love to read your thoughts!
