There was more of the same this year: nu-goth is still the dominant dark fashion trend, taking the best of traditional goth and 90s fashion styles. Here are trends that reached its peak or debuted in 2016. Want to wear your hair in a bun and go shop at H+M? Check out the 2015 recap. Wondering where the moons and tattoo necklaces are? Those are back in the 2014 recap, though there were plenty in 2016.
Makeup trend of the year: drawing/gluing stuff on your third eye.
Yes, I'm aware that this has been around for a while, but this is the year I can no longer ignore it. Literally everyone is doing this now. I'm not a fan of it and will never do it, but it is what it is.

Style icon of the year: Psychara
Honestly, there's only a few ootd style microbloggers I get excited about and of those, Psychara is the one with the most followers on Instagram and Tumblr (though I don't go on tumblr anymore). She's kind of 00s goth, kind of mori, kind of nugoth, kind of whatever her sponsors give her at the time. All her looks are original and uniquely hers and refreshing after many photos of "modern witches" wearing H+M who all look the same.
Body modification of the year: Tragus
I'm not completely sure why everyone ran to get these done this year, but I'm thinking the sudden influx of cool jewelry had something to do with it. Before all you could get was a tiny ring, but now there are all kinds of studs with cool designs that you could get.
Hair Trend of the Year: Wigs
Why is everyone wearing wigs? Are more wig companies sponsoring Instagram trendsetters? Are people fed up with dying their hair and want to wear wigs? Has the quality of wigs gone up? I don't know, but I'm seeing wigs everywhere.
Accessory Trend of the Year: Chokers
I did a post on these!
Goth Brand of the Year: Killstar
For real, I don't want to give it to them again, especially with their absolutely awful Marilyn Manson collection. That was just the WORST. Like who needs a bodysuit Manson's face on your crotch? Why is that a thing that someone would buy? People apparently liked that garbage, but below is a more palatable look that highlights their better designs. Any other brand suggestions?
